National Fossil Day (U.S.)

This past Wednesday, October 13, we celebrated the 12th annual National Fossil Day, a day to celebrate the history that fossils preserve and the paleontologists who study them. National Fossil Day was established by the US National Park Service as a way to encourage the preservation of fossils and the heritage they provide.

Here at Suffolk University, we celebrated the occasion by giving a presentation on how ancient life influences popular culture. As a paleontologist, the skills I have learned that help me interpret fantasy stories, science fiction, and representations of alien worlds through the lens of how organisms evolved here on Earth.
